Suicidality

Have you struggled with situations that feel too hard to bear?

Suicide is a scary word, and is something that we just don’t talk about. Many of my clients experience suicidal thoughts. They have struggled with situations that feel too hard to bear, and suicide seems like the only way to stop the pain.

They feel shame…no one else is struggling the way they are. Somehow, everyone else is able to figure out their problems. They feel hopeless. They’ve tried everything they can think of to change their situations or themselves, but nothing works. Many tell me that they are terrified that they will actually follow through…they are terrified of themselves. They are convinced that if they admit to having suicidal thoughts, they will be “locked up.”

Our culture has made suicide a taboo word. If I say this word, if I ask someone if they are having suicidal thoughts, or if I mention that I have had suicidal thoughts, bad things will happen. But the truth is the exact opposite. When we talk about suicide, and the thoughts that come along with it, we make survival, freedom, and help a reality.

Counselors are just as likely to be impacted by cultural norms as anyone else, and many are not comfortable working with suicide, but I am. Why? Because my life has been profoundly impacted by suicide. I am passionate about helping clients reduce the pain, self-hate, and hopelessness that can lead to suicide.

I believe that suicidal thoughts can, in most cases, be treated without hospitalization, and this is my primary goal. Hospitalization comes with its own problems, and no one wants to go this route, so I work with my clients to identify the specific drivers that have led them to consider suicide, and create safety plans to help them move through suicidal crises. My practice is guided by specialized training in working collaboratively with my clients to resolve their suicidal thoughts.

Learn to Manage.
Gain Your Freedom.

During our time together, my clients learn how to manage suicidal thoughts and gain freedom from the intense pain that is driving these thoughts. They discover that they can trust themselves, and they gather the tools they need to gain support and help both now and in the future.

If you are ready to find this freedom from suicidal pain, reach out. I can’t wait to meet you!
